Former Stoke City defender and acknowledged hard man, Gerry Taggart, is back playing football.

Taggs has been spotted playing for Haslingden St Mary’s, who play in the Aegon West Lancashire League Premier Division.

The popular Northern Ireland international left the Potters at the end of last season after becoming Johan Boskamp’s right hand man in the wake of the infamous farce which saw coach, Jan de Koning leave and John Rudge put on ‘gardening leave’.

My fondest memory of Gerry was when he attempted to strangle Denis Wise in the match against Millwall at the Brit back in October 2003 (see clip below). Both players only received yellow cards for their efforts, even though it was right under the nose of Uriah Rennie – oh, how times have changed!
