It was being reported yesterday that want away Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri was now waiting on talks to conclude between ourselves and Liverpool as he looked to depart the club following relegation.
With a reported relegation release fee of around £12-13million often spoken about in the media, it was no surprise when the Switzerland international announced his intention to leave as we continue to prepare for life in the second tier of football again, and of course Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have long been listed as a possible go to club for the 26-year-old.
According to the Telegraph late yesterday evening, talks have now been held with both clubs and if they are right as they claim an exclusive, which such a relatively low fee kicking in following the drop, negotiations shouldn’t take too long at all.
The Telegraph do state that his release fee is believed to be higher than has been reported though, but we shouldn’t offer any wriggle room as he’s still under contract. Meet it or go away should be our standpoint.
With that said, he doesn’t want to be here, I guess few fans want him to stay now, so the quicker this is sorted the quicker we can continue with our own strengthening plans and put the money to good use.
