STOKE CITY v EVERTON – Leon caught

Sunday 14 September 2008

The biggest threat to Everton on their first Premier League trip to Stoke City was the prodigious throw-ins by Rory Delap, but it was an illegal use of the arm by Potters defender Leon Cort that enraged the visitors. Having lost a two-goal advantage, it seemed that Everton had been awarded a penalty when referee Alan Wiley pointed to the spot. However, his assistant Glenn Turner immediately flagged for an Everton free-kick. Following consultation, it was the free-kick that was awarded despite that fact that TV replays clearly showed that the handball took place inside the area and the big City centre-back could not have commited any other offence.

The Right Result is a 4-2 win to Everton.
