Gerry Taggart’s coaching course in Holland has been cut short as he is needed following Michael Duberry’s red card v Crewe.
The good win was slightly spoilt when the defender was sent off in injury time for elbowing Crewe’s sub Pavol Suhaj.
Stoke assistant manager Jan de Koning said ‘I didn’t see what happened but something must have happened because straight away the referee gave a red card. I’ve already phoned Gerry Taggart and he’s coming back on Wednesday.’
Duberry pleaded his innocence to Jan saying he did nothing, but Jan said ‘referees don’t give you a red card for nothing.’
He explained to the official site: ‘Gerry is on a training course in Holland with Feyenoord. I arranged some tickets for him to go to Ajax versus Thun. After the game he asked me for the result but I told him he had to come back because we don’t know what happened to ‘Dube’.’
Taggart is wanted back in training by Thursday.
Duberry will miss the next three matches. He was hoping to appeal against his red card given by ref Nigel Miller but the match video missed the incident so any appeal would be likely to fail.
