Stoke City midfielder, Peter Sweeney has joined Leeds United for ‘a nominal fee’.

Sweeney is out of contract in the summer and had hardly featured in the Stoke first team since Tony Pulis returned to the club in 2006. He went on loan to Yeovil last season and this season had plied his trade down the M6 at Walsall.

He completed a medical today and will now rejoin Dennis Wise at Elland Road. Sweeney played at Millwall whilst Wise was player/manager at the New Den until both went their separate ways in the summer of 2005.

IN
Already in the can:

Salif Diao (free agent)
Danny Pugh – Preston North End (£500k)

Reasonable certainties:
Leon Cort – Crystal Palace (£1m+?)
Ryan Shawcross – Manchester United (£1m+?)
Andy Griffin – Derby (£???)

Just the rumour mill for now:
Glenn Whelan – Sheffield Wed. He has been talked about since the summer and the Owls have just turned down a ‘derisory’ offer of £250k from Plymouth
Stelios Giannakopoulos – Bolton (£750k?) Megson is a big mate of TP, so who knows..

OUT
and already gone

Peter Sweeney – Leeds United (‘nominal fee’)

Those possibly on their way out of the Brit:
Clint Hill – Crystal Palace. Hill has had a good loan spell at Palace

I’ll keep this updated as the month progresses. If you’ve got any other rumours why not add them below.
