Welsh midfielder Joe Allen has admitted that Stoke City certainly weren’t good enough in the defeat at the weekend to Swansea City.

Travelling to the Liberty Stadium and heading back with a two nil loss, Allen told the Official Website that the performance on the day simply hadn’t been good enough and the team had to show a reaction in the next one.

Speaking in his own post game press conference, he explained that he didn’t feel given the showing on the day that we’d deserved anything from the tie.

‘Everyone in there knows that we weren`t good enough today and didn`t do enough to get a result. We have to make sure we react next weekend, it`s as simple as that. We didn`t start well and went a goal behind against a team like Swansea City who can keep hold of the ball. That made it difficult to get back into the game and it gave us a bit of a mountain to climb and we never really created too many major chances apart from the penalty.’

The 27 year old went on to say.

‘Of course the penalty would have had an impact on the result and game had it gone in but it happens – you can`t blame the result on one moment like that. Had we scored that and come away with a point I think we would have been very lucky so there are no complaints on our part.’

He ended by saying.

‘As I mentioned earlier we need to better and we can be better than that. We go home with our tails between our legs a little bit.’
