Stoke will look to field their two new signings, Glenn Whelan and Paul Gallagher, for the visit of the Bluebirds to the Brit on Saturday (kick-off: 12.30pm). Cardiff arrive on a good run of form which has culminated in Dave Jones getting the January Manager of the Month award. But their six wins did include two FA Cup victories against lower league minnows and a Welsh Cup victory.
Stoke’s latest signing, Glenn Whelan hopes that he’ll slot well into his new team. He told the official site: ‘Stoke have been doing really well this year and it’s up to me now to work hard, get my head down and get into the starting eleven. Hopefully I can come in and try to impress the manager in training and hopefully get into the team.’
Stoke City Team News:
As well their two new signings, Stoke are able to welcome back Mamady Sidibe after Mali were knocked out of the African Cup of Nations in midweek, but he may be left on the sidelines for this match after only just flying back. Andy Wilkinson is still out injured. With John Eustace’s departure and Dominic Matteo still injured the captain’s armband is up for grabs again.
Player to watch: Glenn Whelan
All eyes will be on Whelan and whilst he’ll still be getting to know his new teammates, it’ll be interesting to see how he performs. New loanee, Paul Gallagher is no stranger to the Brit and should find it easier to find his feet for his second spell at the club.
Cardiff City Team News:
Cardiff goalkeeper Michael Oakes and midfielder Stephen McPhail face late fitness tests for the Bluebirds.
Trevor Sinclair could be in line to return, but Riccardo Scimeca (groin) and Robbie Fowler (hip) remain out
Player to watch: Trevor Sinclair
Sinclair was a transfer target for the Potters last summer, but after talks with Tony Pulis opted to join the Bluebirds.
