Liverpool midfielder, Salif Diao is reported to be close to rejoining the Potters for the remainder of the season. The Sentinel have said that Stoke are in advanced talks with his agents and a deal will hopefully be complete in time for him to play in the FA Cup tie with Fulham at the weekend.

Should Diao rejoin, it is also likely that Dave Brammer will leave in the next week and join a lower division side.

Aston Villa boss, Martin O’Neill, has hinted he may just be ready to let Lee Hendrie rejoin the Potters. Hendrie is still way down the pecking order at Villa Park and no other Premiership club has yet taken him on. When questioned about the winger’s future in light of this week’s signing of Ashley Young from Watford, he said: ‘we will see what develops this week, but I did say to him I have no intention of imprisoning people here for the sake of it.’

In related news, Zimbabwean international centre-half, Zvenyika Makonese has told the African media that he is having a trial for Stoke City this week and Wigan next week.
