Stoke to sub Etherington cash for debts

It’s being reported that Matty Etherington is negotiating a new contract which will include an up-front payment to cover his gambling debts.

According to the Guardian, the bookies are after ‘several hundred thousands of pounds’, but that his lawyers are trying to reduce the debt as some of it may not be legally enforceable.

The irony of this is not lost on us. Since Stoke City Football Club is wholly owned by Bet365, this would mean that one bookie would be effectively paying off the others – even weirder if he’s also been gambling on Bet365.com!
