Tony Pulis wants to sign a keeper ahead of the August 31st transfer deadline – who will be expected to play second fiddle to Steve Simonsen.
The keeper will be from The Premiership or Championship, and speculation has seen names such as Portsmouth’s Jamie Ashdown and West Brom’s Russell Hoult linked.
The new signing will have to challenge Steve Simonsen for a place in between the sticks, following the former Everton players excellent displays since signing 2 years ago.
Pulis sees current number two Robert Duggan as too inexperienced to fill in should Simonsen pick up an injury, and boss Pulis told The Sentinel, ‘The goalkeeping situation is an area that hasn’t gone unnoticed. Robbie is a fine young prospect, but it might be a bit too early to expect him to step into the breach if required.’
