Stoke City have snapped up two youngsters on free transfers.

The Potters have signed Australian Alex Grant from Portsmouth and George Waring from Everton.

Grant, 19, an Australian born defender came through the youth ranks at Portsmouth after he was signed from ECU Joondalup.

His contract runs out in the summer, and Stoke have beaten a number of Premier League teams to the signature of the highly rated player.

The centre half had spent time on loan at Eastleigh and Havant and Waterlooville.

Stoke will not have to pay any compensation to Portsmouth.

Waring, 18, had been released by Everton after spending 3 years in their academy.

Waring is a 6ft 5in striker, who was born in Chester, and scored twice in a trial match for the Potters under-18`s against Liverpool in their 4-0 win at Clayton Wood.

Both players have put pen to paper on a two year deal at the club.
