Stoke City have smashed their transfer record for the second successive transfer window.

The Potters have signed Gianelli Imbula for £18.3 million from Portuguese outfit Porto.

The 23-year-old midfielder is set to be a replacement for Steven N`Zonzi, who left the club in the summer.

Mark Hughes is excited about the prospect of the French midfielder. He told Stoke City

Manager Mark Hughes added: ‘Giannelli is a good young player. He has great power, good ability on the ball and a great range of passing and there’s no doubt he will add to the quality that we already have at the Club.

‘He played against us in pre-season and although I was already aware of him, seeing him at first hand resonated with me.’

Imbula has penned a 5-and-a-half year deal at the Britannia Stadium and now becomes the club`s record signing, which was previously held by Xherdan Shaqiri, who arrived in the Potteries for £12 million in the summer from Inter Milan.

The former France under-21 international is unavailable for selection tomorrow night against Manchester United but could be set to be given a debut against Everton on Saturday afternoon.
