Mark Hughes has today put a real statement on the direction of Stoke City, and has signed 21 year old defender Marc Muniesa.
The ex-Barcelona player has signed for Stoke on a free transfer, and has already stated his intent on pushing the Potters forward. Muniesa was a part of the Spanish Under 21 team that won the European Under 21 Championships, and has said that coming to Stoke wasn’t a difficult decision.
“It wasn`t a big decision for me to make. I came to England yesterday to meet the people at the club and look around the training ground, which is very impressive. My season only finished a fortnight ago when the European Championships ended, but I can`t wait to get started for Stoke. I would start tomorrow if the club asked me to.”
The Spanish starlet was a strong player in the eyes of ex-employers Barcelona. Muniesa had a 30 Million Euro buyout clause in his contract, and had been called up to the Barcelona main team for the 2012-2013 season, he was looking to start in time for the season until an injury to his cruciate ligament in his right knee caused a 6-month spell on the sidelines.
