Stoke City have completed the signing of striker, James Beattie in a deal that ‘could rise to £3.5m’.

It had been well publicised that the Potters had a bid for Beattie rejected last week by Sheffield United which was rumoured to be in the region of £2.5m.

This evening, he has signed a two and a half year contract for a fee that many will regard as an absolute steal. We understand that Stoke finally got the original bid accepted after sweetening the deal with a potential £1m in performance-related bonuses. It doesn’t seem good business for the Blades since they only bought the former Evertonian 18 months ago for £4m.

Only this afternoon the Blades’ official website was highlighting the fact that he was still a Sheffield United player. They emphasised the fact that he’d trained with the first team as usual this morning but not travelled to the Blades’s away game with Leyton Orient due to a bout of flu. From photographs on the Potters’ official site this evening, that ’bout of flu’ seems far from James’s mind!

The 30 year old has scored 34 goals just in the last season and a half in the Championship and the Potters will hope that he can replicate that sort of form in the Premier League for the remainder of the season.

  • Yes, bladesforlife, and you also should be in the Premier League right now, we all know that. Stop whining already, your big club is a joke.

  • hammer – you cheating c@nt, feck off!!! carnt wait to see you lot go into admin and pay up a small amount of what you cheats have cossed us!!

  • Good old Pigsforlife grunting and being abusive on here too. Have you considered anger management?? I think maybe you should. Beattie is an absolute steal at 2.5 mill but he was never going to stay at Bumhole Lane, was always there only to showcase his abilities until a proper club came in for him, despite all those deluded pigs thinking he was playing for them because he actually wanted to.

  • great signing he will score loads of goals and he will hopeful move up the table in the top half.

  • superpig – typical of a jealous poor relation snortbeast. wouldnt expect anything less from you lot. n0b sack!!

  • Needs a good partner to play with though, likes to just sit behind the main striker, but will also need to time to blend in.
