Stoke City are reported to have agreed a permanent transfer fee of £4m with Newcastle United for Shola Ameobi, if the Potters secure promotion next Sunday, according to The Shields Gazette.

Ameobi has been on loan at the Brit since March for a reported loan fee of £575,000 and this excludes his wages which are being picked up by Stoke in full. Although never confirmed by either club, this would be the highest fee ever paid for a loan player.

Ameobi has not yet shown Potters fans what he is capable of and is yet to score, but has been suffering from an injury that has restricted his appearances in recent games.

He has been injury prone during his seven year career in the North East but, when he has played, has scored 28 goals across 93 League starts.

  • Well quite a big fee, but when fit, he’s a decent player, wasn’t on for longer enough on Saturday.

  • absoulute joke, ameobi is not a proven goal scorer and in the games weve seen him he was awful, anyone see that shot he had in the last 5 mins of the bristol game???
