Stoke City Chief Executive, Tony Scholes has revealed that newly promoted Sunderland have enquired about Danny Higginbotham.

Scholes told the Sentinel: ‘I can confirm we received an inquiry from Sunderland a few weeks ago and we made it clear that we were not interested in selling Danny Higginbotham.

‘We are keen to build a team capable of promotion to the Premier League, and Danny is a big part of that.’

Higgs has been the rock in central defence for the Potters since his £225,000 transfer from Southampton last summer and he reinforced his position in the team by being awarded the captaincy in the wake of Michael Duberry’s departure in January. He ended a great first season by scooping all the player of the season awards and the club obviously have no intentions of letting him go.
