This afternoon it was being reported that Newcastle United had failed in a low ball offer to tempt Stoke City into doing a deal for defender Erik Pieters.

The Stoke Sentinel reported the transfer speculation and suggested that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez was growing incredibly frustrated at the club given the latest rejection, as a claimed offer of around the £2million mark was never even going to get us into discussions you would think.

With it believed that Gary Rowett remains on the hunt today for a left-back to provide further competition, an offer of that size was never going to give us a question to ask and it was immediately knocked back according to the report.

It’s not the first time we’ve been linked with a possible deal with Newcastle this window, as a good few weeks back we were hopeful that they would get a deal over the line for Andros Townsend, so that Matt Ritchie potentially became available to us but nothing happened with that and we move on ending up with Tom Ince.

With further speculation linking us with Jonas Knudsen from Portman Road, Ipswich Town gaffer Paul Hurst is quoted as saying that whilst nothing is guaranteed, he fully expects the left back to remain with them come 5pm.

“As we sit here I don’t think anyone will be leaving but it’s a transfer window and you’re never quite sure. I expect Jonas, 100 per cent, to be here.”

With just over 30 minutes remaining in the permanent transfer window on deadline day, we’ll have to see if anything comes off late for us.
