Stoke City have rejected a written transfer request from French midfielder Steven Nzonzi.

The central midfielder, who was purchased from Blackburn Rovers for £3 million, had told the Potters that he wished to leave the Britannia Stadium after only one season.

Stoke chairman Peter Coates told BBC Sport: ‘I can confirm that we have received a written transfer request from Steven Nzonzi.

‘He is our player and has three years remaining on his contract.’

Nzonzi has made 38 appearances for the Potters season, scoring once and the 24 year old was voted the club`s young player of the year.
