Summer signing James McClean stole the show against Hull City on Saturday as Stoke City finally got a first Championship win of the 2018/19 year.

Opening the scoring on the day at the Bet365 Stadium, Stoke went on to secure a largely comfortable 2-0 victory to register the first three points of the campaign and a number of players put in some far better performances – debutant Cuco Martina showed what he’s capable of so that was another bright point.

McClean was the stand out though and he polled a match rating of 7.78 on statistics website Whoscored.

Contributing the opening goal from his only effort on target, he did have two shots in total and was also credited with one key pass from his 60 touches in the game. A pass accuracy level of 86.1% added to one tackle and two clearances helped boost his rating but it’s also fair to pick out fellow new signing Peter Etebo (7.59), Joe Allen (7.50), Martina (7.29), Mame Biram Diouf (7.05) and Bruno Martins Indi (7.04) as the other players to get themselves a rating of seven or more.

Now we’ve solved the search for a win, hopefully, the confidence boost will see far greater as we continue through the season.
