Stoke are reportedly in talks over a loan move for Monaco striker Eidur Gudjohnsen. The Chelsea legend has also enjoyed spells with Bolton and Tottenham in the Premier League as well as Barcelona, where he won the Champions League.

The Potters are very keen to strengthen their squad ahead of Tuesday`s transfer deadline and with Marc Wilson expected to join, it looks to be a frantic time at the Brit.

The 31 year-old Gudjohnsen has plenty of flair and creativity and would certainly boost Stoke`s attacking options. The Icelandic international scored at the Britannia last season when he was on loan at Spurs in a 2-1 win. A permanent move to White Hart Lane was expected to follow but it seems Stoke may have nipped in to sign him.

Tony Pulis has, according too reports, approached Monaco to sign the versatile playmaker. The French side should be willing to let Gudjohnsen, who won the Champions League in 2006, leave the club either on loan or permanently but a loan move to the Potteries would have to happen, as we couldn`t afford his extortionate wages.

Gudjohnsen`s love of the Premier League started over ten years ago when he joined Bolton. He impressed so much that he was taken to Stanford Bridge and became a real favourite with Chelsea fans. Striking up a partnership with Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink he scored many important goals and, with Jose Mourinho in charge, he helped the Blues to their first top flight title in over 50 years.

But in the summer of 2006 he left London and joined Barcelona for around £10 million. He spent three years with the Catalan side but never held down a regular first team berth and most of his 100+ appearances are from the bench.

A move to Monaco followed last summer but a poor start to the season saw him shipped back to London in January, joining Tottenham on loan. After finding his feet, his cameo role helped them earn Champions League football but surprisingly he hasn`t joined Harry Redknapp permanently so he may have to settle for the Potters and Tony Pulis.

Hopefully?
