Stoke City have some competition in the race to sign Lee Hendrie.

With the Aston Villa midfielder out of contract, it was never going to be cast iron certainty that Hendrie would sign on the dotted line for the Potters and Hendrie has now confirmed that Leicester and Coventry are both after his signature as well. Now that Leicester have Milan Mandaric at the helm they have some money to spend and may be able to outbid the Potters and certainly they seem to be attracting Hendrie’s attention. He told the Villa official site that he would like to get a deal done with someone by the end of the week: ‘Milan Mandaric is ambitious to take Leicester back to the Premiership and they are a big club, as are Coventry, so it’s nice to be linked with them. If my agent rings me on Friday with something worthwhile, then great.’

If we were to miss out on Hendrie and he goes to another Championship club, it would put a big hole in Stoke’s claims to be serious for promotion and Peter Coates’ capability to be able to splash the cash when necessary.
