Stoke eye up Baggies star

Stoke City are reported to be keeping a close eye on developments at the Hawthorns after it was reported that Kevin Phillips may be ready to walk away from West Brom.

The Baggies’ star striker scored 24 goals last season but is out of contract and whilst a new contract is on the table, the player is hanging on for a better deal now that the club have earned promotion alongside the Potters.

The Mirror has reported that whilst Stoke are ready to offer what Phillips is asking for, the Baggies’ boss, Tony Mowbray, is standing his ground: ‘Our offers will stay the same, but can only remain on the table for a certain amount of time as we have to start knowing if we need to fill places’.

Those places have already started to fill with the news that they’ve signed Hearts’ striker, Roman Bednar who spent last season on loan with the Black Country club.

The veteran striker is rapidly approaching his 35th birthday in a few weeks, but would no doubt be a useful member of the squad if he can continue his run of form in the Premier League.
