Tony Pulis has said that he did not refuse to allow Port Vale to take Potters’ players on loan just because they are the local rivals.

Vale manager, Martin Foyle had made enquiries about taking Martin Paterson on loan before the Potters allowed him to go to Grimsby with Anthony Pulis last month and local media reports had interpreted that as a snub to the Burslem club.

Pulis has said that Stoke will continue to try and send players to those clubs where they think they will benefit most. Paterson has excelled at the League 2 outfit, already scoring four goals in three appearances and featuring in the League 2 ‘team of the week’.

Foyle has admitted that maybe he would not have had the same opportunities at Vale Park.
