As per the speculation and earlier comment from Stoke City, today we completed a loan deal for Greek international left back Kostas Stafylidis.

The highly rated 24 year old comes in from German side FC Augsburg and he becomes our second capture of the January window following the arrival of Moritz Bauer from Rubin Kazan.

Stafylidis isn’t actually new to England as he spent time with Fulham back in the 2014/15 season, making 38 league appearances.

Speaking to the Official Website chief executive Tony Scholes explained.

‘Having played in Germany himself, Paul Lambert is a keen observer of the Bundesliga and I know he has been impressed by what he has seen of Kostas in action for Augsburg. We have moved quickly to add to our defensive resources by bringing him to the Club and we`re delighted to have secured his services until the end of the season.’

New manager Paul Lambert added.

‘I think he is a really good left back, he has a lot of energy which I think we need and he adds competition. He is in competition with other lads, he knows that too, and that is important because it takes everyone`s levels up that little bit more. I will have to see how fit he is and how he is feeling himself because he hasn`t played a great deal of football recently.’

Lambert added.

‘It is funny because I was actually in Augsburg not long ago with Steffan Reuter, who I played with at Dortmund, and he invited me along to watch training. I obviously saw him then and was impressed and as it happened he had been flagged up here at the Club too, so it all fell together perfectly.’

Thibaud Verlinden has also completed a loan move out to German side St.Pauli today.

The Belgian teenager will remain with them for the rest of the season and he had been training with them for the last few weeks, but can now officially make his debut and get some game time.
