Stoke City have made their first signing of the summer after securing the services of Oghenekaro Peter Etebo.

The 22-year-old midfielder arrives from Portuguese side Feirense, costing the Potters £6.3million on a five-year contract.

The Nigerian will be representing his country in Russia and won many fans last season on loan at La Liga side Las Palmas.

Chief Executive Tony Scholes says that the player could have joined sides from the Premier League or Bundesliga but instead decided to take his chances in the Championship with Stoke City.

Scholes told City’s official website: “We are delighted Etebo has chosen to join Stoke City, becoming our first signing of the summer.

“I’m particularly pleased that he took the time to look beyond our current league status and understand who we are as a club before choosing us ahead of current Premier League and Bundesliga clubs.”

Etebo featured in the international friendly against England at Wembley recently and has so far made 14 appearances for Nigeria.

He joined Feirense in 2016 and made 45 league appearances.
