Stoke bid for Man City winger

Sky Sports is reporting that Stoke and QPR have both launched bids for England and Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips. The 30 year-old has fallen well down the pecking order at Eastland`s and is now longer required and is available for as little as £2-3 million.

Fans have been becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of movement made by Stoke. With only Jonathan Woodgate and Matthew Upson arriving on free transfers, Stoke are yet to spend any money while the squad looks very thin and in desperate need of a facelift.

With just 5 days to go until the Transfer Window closes, Pulis has reiterated his desire to bring in 3 or 4 fresh faces and SWP looks definitely on the radar. Stoke`s other wingers Matthew Etherington and Jermaine Pennant are the two hardest working members of the team and with the added strain of the Europa League, Wright-Phillips would be a welcome addition with his blistering pace and killer deliveries.

However the recently rich QPR stand in the way. With the backing of Formula One team boss Tony Fernandes, they are more likely to offer much higher wages to entice their man as they seem to have done with Joey Barton, another Stoke target. As with any Man City player Wright-Phillips is earning an extortionate amount of money and a dramatic pay cut would have to happen. This may mean that QPR is a more likely destination, but Stoke are a bigger club with European credentials.

All Potters fans should prepare themselves for an adrenaline filled day on Wednesday, Deadline Day, where Stoke and Pulis seem to thrive. If Pulis wants three or four then expect exactly that before 11pm on August 31st.
