Stoke keeper Steve Simonsen’s future is now under scrutiny as the club is moving ever closer to sign Huddersfield`s 19-year old keeper Alex Smithies. Simo has spent the last season and a half playing second fiddle to Dane Thomas Sorensen and has been forced to settle for only a handful of appearances.

The Potters have been linked several times over the last few months with League 1 star Smithies. Pulis and his backroom staff have been spotted watching the youngster over the last few weeks, and Peter Reid was only there the other day at Elland Road to watch him against Leeds United.

With all the hype that Huddersfield are prepared to accept around £3,000,000 for there prize asset, Simonsen has now been subject of a move away and Pulis may be ready to cash in as early as January, in order to prevent him leaving for nothing next summer, after his contract expires.

I believe that the loyal keeper deserves a new contract if he wants one, he has stated many times how happy he is in the Potteries even though he isnt playing regularly and is still more than capable of mixing it with the best, just look back a couple of weeks ago against Spurs.

But the temptation of a young talent with a massive future ahead of him may just be too much for the club to resist.
