Boskamp said that not taking our chances cost us in the 2-1 defeat to Derby: ‘We had plenty of chances to score in the first half and we had plenty of chances in the second half too. But after going behind and then getting the equaliser, I thought we were going to win and we certainly created the chances. But in football you sometimes don’t get what you deserve and we were so intent on getting the three points we made mistakes.’
To rub insult into injury, this was Derby’s first win in nine games.
Inigo Idiakez scored in the first-half injury time to send Derby in 1 up. A deflected goal from Carl Hoefkens in the 59th minute put us back into the game but try as we might, we didn’t build on that goal and Paul Peschisolido popped up late on to ruin Stokes day.
Derby’s on loan midfielder Peter Whittingham cleared a shot off the line but despite several attempts, we didn’t take our chances.
Boskamp said: ‘I’m disappointed with the result because yet again we’ve given a game away late in the day. Derby scored late in the first half and late in the second half too – bad times. The result has given me a dreadful feeling, but the way we played has given me a great feeling.’
