Hull City brace goalscorer Xherdan Shaqiri was pretty much manager Mark Hughes’ focus as he reflected on victory this weekend.

Travelling to the KCOM Stadium to face off against old Manchester United colleague Mike Phelan, Stoke City took the two nil victory with a pair of Shaqiri goals, and with pundits and the media full of praise for the Switzerland international, so was Hughes.

Speaking to the Official Website in his post game press conference, a delighted Welshman described Shaq as being ‘superb’ for us on the day, and he’s hoping that form is something we’ll start to see on a far more regular basis in the future now.

‘Xherdan was absolutely superb for us today, just as he has been when he has played this season in all fairness to him. We lost him for five or six games through injury, but since he has returned he has really shown that he is now accustomed to the Premier League.’

Hughes went on to say that he always felt he would take some time to adjust to the Premier League, but with that adjustment behind him, he’s looking for far more from the player in the future.

‘We always thought that it may take him a season or so to fully get to grips with what this league offers, but he is showing signs now that he feels comfortable and knows what it takes to influence games in the right manner. It wasn`t just his two goals that stood out today, it was his performance as a whole, he worked for the team and produced several outstanding passes to create opportunities.’

‘He was a real shining light for us today, just as the performance was from the group as a whole – we feel we are in a good place at the moment.’
