On Monday reports surfaced that Italian side Sampdoria were interested in doing a deal for Stoke City midfielder Giannelli Imbula.
Tuttosport via football-italia suggested that with them expected to lose Uruguayan international Lucas Torreira to Arsenal this summer, they had identified the Spaniard as a replacement.
The deal is supposedly sped up here owing to Uruguay falling out of the World Cup with it originally believed that Torreira wanted to make his decision after the World Cup had ended completely.
25-year-old Imbula is easy pickings for transfer speculation though, having joined back in 2016, he has only made 25 starting appearances for the club, with three additional substitute showings and he has returned two goals. For a reported fee of £18.3million though that’s a pretty pathetic return and he did spend the 2017/18 campaign out with Toulouse on a loan spell, so it’s no great stretch to imagine him departing this summer permanently for the right price.
With us looking to cut costs following relegation, you can hardly see Imbula wanting to fight for his place in the Championship either.
