Pulis: O`Neill played a part in Carew deal

Tony Pulis has revealed that former Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill was a big influence on his decision to bring Villa striker John Carew to the Britannia Stadium.

The Norwegian forward recently joined the Potters during the January Transfer Window last month on a loan deal until the end of the season. John is now off-the-mark as he scored his first goal for Stoke on his home debut against Sunderland on Saturday. 3-2 was the end result.

Pulis told the website: ‘I spoke to Martin before we did the deal. He was the one who convinced me that he would be a great signing for this club.

‘He told me that he’s a smashing, big fellow; a gentle giant in lots of respects, but if you get him at it and motivated, he’s as good as anybody.

‘John has been fantastic. The great thing is that he has become a firm favourite in the dressing room and the other lads love having him around.

‘John’s got great experience of playing at the highest level across Europe. His technique is excellent and he has a great sense of awareness. I am confident that he’s going to be a great acquisition.’

So far so good as far as I`m concerned with Carew. He has showed some great touches and has linked up well with Jermaine Pennant. I think he could be great asset for the club, despite some people worrying about his pace and his age. Perhaps a good partner for the likes of Kenwyne Jones or Ricardo Fuller or even Jon Walters.
