Tony Pulis has gently rebuffed local speculation that Robbie Fowler could be a target for the Potters.

Last week, local rivals, Port Vale had unveiled a seemingly ambitious attempt to coax former Liverpool star, Robbie Fowler to Vale Park. But whilst the announcement by Vale’s club chairman had probably more to do with newspaper column inches than the Vale’s vast transfer budget it has provoked speculation locally that the Potters could do worse than persuade the former England international to join the better of the two local clubs.

In a gentle dig at the Burslem club’s attempts to raise their profile, the Potters’ manager told Stoke’s official site: ‘No, Robbie Fowler is out of the question, if Port Vale are interested then we can’t compete with the likes of them.’

Adding, with a smile: ‘I’ve actually made an offer for Raul though but he’s got to come within our wage structure and if he’s prepared to do that then we’ll take him.’
