Jermaine Pennant has been blocked from going on tour with Stoke City to the US for the second season in a row.

The 30-year-old midfielder, who has recently signed a new contract at the Britannia stadium after initially being released by the Potters, cannot be granted a visa after having previous criminal convictions.

Stoke were informed by the Home Office that an application for the former Liverpool player would be highly unlikely to be granted and would need to supply evidence that Pennant was a reformed character.

Pennant`s continued wrongdoings which included being banned from driving for 3 years last May after a drink driving offence didn`t help his case to show that the player had undergone some form of rehabilitation.

The winger has stayed in the UK and will train with the club`s under-21`s whilst the rest of the first team fly out to the States.
