Pele will unveil a statue at the Brit this summer in honour of England’s greatest goalkeeper and Stoke hero, Gordon Banks

The great Brazilian striker played against Banks on several occasions and the greatest save Banksy ever made was against him during the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. Stoke fans will also remember the penalty save in the League cup semi-final replay against West Ham which kept the Potters in the cup which they went on to win in 1972.

It is the first time that British football has honoured a keeper with a statue and is a fitting tribute to one of the Potters’ finest players.

We’d also like to see the club honour another of the club’s greatest players from the same era. John Ritchie died last year and the club have not yet announced how they intend to commemorate the all-time record striker.
