It’s being reported that Republic of Ireland gaffer Martin O’Neill is holding preliminary talks with Stoke City over the position of manager.

O’Neill has featured in managerial speculation, with some suggesting it might be a ‘split job’ role where he retained his job with the Republic, but whilst that remains unclear he is apparently ‘locked in talks’ with our board at the moment.

The Birmingham Mail were one of many to report earlier today that talks were being held and that O’Neill was interested in bringing international assistant Roy Keane with him.

In fact the suggestion is a deal is now close and he could be confirmed before the week is out.

Should he arrive, as well as Keane, it’s speculated that his long time coaching team of Steve Walford, Steve Guppy and Seamus McDonagh would quickly follow.

You would think it would be a permanent appointment though and not a shared role with the Republic as that would complicate things, especially if Keane was to join him.
