Stoke revealed this afternoon that they had agreed a three month loan deal with Sunderland for the services of their reserve keeper, Marton Fulop with Russell Hoult moving to Notts County.

The Hungarian international stopper arrived at The Stadium of Light in January last year, but found that his number one spot was taken off him by the arrival of Craig Gordon last summer in a £9m deal. He’s spent the first half of the season on loan at Leicester, but when Holloway tried to sign him up in January found the £3m price tag too high.

Fulop is keen to keep in first team football after the Hungarian head coach told him that his international future depended on regular matches, so it would seem likely that Tony Pulis will move Steve Simonsen onto the bench that Hoult has vacated. It will be interesting to see if Simonsen is given a final chance in Saturday’s home match with Ipswich or whether Fulop will make an immediate first team start.
