It seems more likely tonight that Portsmouth striker, David Nugent may be on his way to the Brit after Ipswich pulled out of the race for his signature.

Yesterday, Stoke were reported to have made a late move for the former Preston player amid talk of Nugent’s preference for a move back to the North West rather than East Anglia and tonight Ipswich have confirmed that they are no longer interested in the 22 year old after Portsmouth said that he would not be fit until next week at the earliest after suffering an abductor injury.

Nugent has failed to break into the Pompey team after joining from Preston during the summer in a £6m deal. Any move to Stoke will depend on how well the Potters can negotiate down any loan deal after they appear to have baulked at initial requests from Portsmouth for a six figure fee for the three month loan.

An ‘impact’ striker has long seemed to be on Tony Pulis’ shopping list and with the Potters succumbing to two defeats in a week with no goals in that time, this may be a good time to speculate to accumulate.
