It seems more likely tonight that Portsmouth striker, David Nugent may be on his way to the Brit after Ipswich pulled out of the race for his signature.

Yesterday, Stoke were reported to have made a late move for the former Preston player amid talk of Nugent’s preference for a move back to the North West rather than East Anglia and tonight Ipswich have confirmed that they are no longer interested in the 22 year old after Portsmouth said that he would not be fit until next week at the earliest after suffering an abductor injury.

Nugent has failed to break into the Pompey team after joining from Preston during the summer in a £6m deal. Any move to Stoke will depend on how well the Potters can negotiate down any loan deal after they appear to have baulked at initial requests from Portsmouth for a six figure fee for the three month loan.

An ‘impact’ striker has long seemed to be on Tony Pulis’ shopping list and with the Potters succumbing to two defeats in a week with no goals in that time, this may be a good time to speculate to accumulate.

  • If he’s fit enough, he’ll be welcome. We need a new face to help lift the team back into a winning mentality.

    If he’s still crocked? What’s the point…..

  • Not sure how injured he really is. Seems that Ipswich and Nugent are both playing games…

  • Hmmmmmmmm, on second thoughts he an ex Preston pikey!!!!

That said, I may forgive him if he comes to Stoke and smashes 10 in by the end of the season. lol

  • I think he could do a good job for you but the biggest problem is his fitness.. he can’t seem to get fit and stay fit….. What the last time you can actually take a player on loan ?

  • Nugent being an idiot. He wants to go to Preston to be with his mate by the looks of it…. Sod him, bad attitudes are not whats needed in the dressing room.
