Mixed start for Stoke new boys

Sunday’s win over Spurs was a mixture of highs and lows for two of Stoke’s new boys.

Dave Kitson suffered the ignominy of yet another second half substitution, being replaced by Ricardo Fuller.

In contrast, Tom Soares made his home debut and was instrumental in both of Stoke’s penalties – after being brought down twice and looks like he will be a useful addition to the squad with some much needed pace down the wing.

Kitson was reported to be struggling to settle in the Potteries after his £5.5m move from Reading, but until the striker gets off the mark he’ll always feel the pressure of living with the tag of the Potters’ costliest ever purchase. One goal should lift the gloom for Dave but he failed to endear himself to fans by petulantly walking off on Sunday without acknowledging the manager or Fuller.

To be fair, Kitson didn’t have a bad game but to see Fuller come straight on and have several good chances must have made it even worse. In our latest poll, Vital Stoke readers are in general agreement that Pulis should stick by the striker – his time will come, I’m sure.
