Match Stats: Stoke v Brentford – Afobe Makes It Two From Two

After the unexpected opening day defeat to Leeds United, with Stoke City being highly tipped for promotion at the first time of asking this year, it was all eyes to Brentford at the Bet365 Stadium today.

Benik Afobe made it two goals from two games as he found the net to open the scoring in the 29th minute, but a second half fightback from the visitors saw Ollie Watkins level the scores up in the 66th minute and that was where the scoring finished as we took a point from a 1-1 draw.

The disappointing thing in many ways was the way Brentford bossed the game as our performance wasn’t great and with the chances they fashioned on the day they will most likely be wondering how they didn’t nick all three points come the fulltime whistle.

Plenty of improvement is needed this year as it’s a stalled start to Championship life and we’ll have to be significantly better than we have been so far if we are to reach our early expectations. It is early days though and we’re only two matches in, so panic shouldn’t take over just yet.
