Stoke’s new goal machine, Kenwyne Jones has played down comparisions to Didier Drogba.

Certainly by our recent goal scoring record, he is our Drogba, especially considering that he effectively missed the first two games through injury and his first full match was against Chelsea and was said to not be fully fit – since then he has scored in every match. A look at last season’s stats show that he’s already equaled Ricardo Fuller’s paltry three league goals (but Ric did go and score another five in the cup matches) and is rapidly advancing on our top league scorer which was Matty Etherington with just five.

We’re all be looking forward to Blackburn’s visit on Saturday to see if Jones can make it five goals in five games (league and cup) as he inches towards the club record of goals scored in consecutive games – held by Potters’ legend, Mike Sheron when he scored seven goals in seven games back in 1996.

Whilst I’m talking about goal scoring, I have to mention Jon ‘The Beast’ Parkin’s superb hat-trick in Preston’s 6-4 victory over Leeds last night. The former Potter was subbed late on after PNE had come back from 4-1 down to win and even got a standing ovation from the home fans at Elland Road. Now that is saying something.
