On loan Everton centre-half Ashley Williams hasn’t had the best of starts to life at Stoke City in the season of 2018/19 – but it’s fair to say that nobody in defence actually has with our tendency to leak goals to the opposition.
With ten games to his name so far in our colours, the only real standout moment for the 34-year-old was his double booking against Wigan Athletic earlier in the season.
The October international break saw some old school form from the defender though and he certainly earned praise for his performance for Wales against the Republic of Ireland in recent times.
So many youngsters brilliant tonight, but Ashley Williams was fantastic. Has had a tough time of it lately, but he looked back to his best. Pivotal in helping Wales keep a clean sheet. #IRLWAL

Ashley Williams had been excellent tonight. His best game for us since the Euros. But next month, it’s important that least in the Albania game that Rodon and Mepham are blooded together. Give the future partnership a try.

With Stoke hosting locals Birmingham City on Saturday, fans will definitely be hoping that it was a corner turned for him as we know how much improvement we need to make if we are in anyway to achieve our early season expectations of promotion at the first time of asking.
We just have to hope the boost of confidence he’ll have taken from that transmits back to club performances.
