Reports after Lee Hendrie failed to sign for the Potters on Friday appeared to blame Aston Villa, but Villa have today released a statement on their website which says that no Premiership club has approached them but there may have been approaches made directly to Lee Hendrie or his agent.

Villa boss, Martin O’Neill said: ‘No Premiership side has spoken to me direct, but that might change and that doesn’t mean no-one has contacted Lee or his agent. At the minute the interest comes from Championship sides, but that might change.’

He added: ‘Stoke City came back in for him last Thursday and Friday, but for one reason or another it didn’t go through. I think there are a number of teams interested in Lee at the minute.’

This seems to mean that it was Lee himself and/or his agent that pulled out of signing last week. If that is the case and there are no Premiership teams in the running, how committed is Hendrie to really coming back to the Brit?

I know money talks in football and whilst I would not blame him if he joins a Prem side, I would be very disappointed in him if he now joins another Championship club after we gave him the chance to prove himself and he has said ‘what a good club Stoke are…….’ etc.

At least it will all be sorted (one way or another) by midnight tomorrow.
