Manager Mark Hughes’ pre League Cup press conference is starting to filter through now and the first update concerns injury news.

Travelling to Ashton Gate for the third round tie against Bristol City, Hughes confirmed to the Official Website that on loan centre half Kurt Zouma was likely to play a part in the game owing to the fact that he was ineligible for the Premier League clash against parent club Chelsea at the weekend.

There were also likely to be other changes as he gave players pitch time and gave others a rest but whether they’ll be the same kinds of changes seen in the second round tie against Rochdale remains to be seen, and the Welshman also confirmed he wouldn’t overly take a chance given the form the Championship side are in – unbeaten in the last seven across all competitions.

‘There are a couple of players we feel we need to give a game but we`ll still go strong. It`s important that we progress in the competition; we want to have a good run in it this season if we can.’

Adding.

‘Kurt Zouma can`t play on Saturday against Chelsea so he`ll be involved and we`ll go there with a team strong enough to give it a really good go.’

Geoff Cameron remains out with his hamstring issue and the hint was Hughes was unlikely to risk Ryan Shawcross and would give him longer to fully recover from the back problem that’s kept him out of our last two matches.
