Manager Mark Hughes has said that Stoke City are actively looking to strengthen in the transfer market this summer.

With former West Bromwich Albion skipper Darren Fletcher now within our ranks, Hughes is hoping that he won’t be the only additional he makes and he told Official Website that the club already had a number or irons in the fire, it was now just waiting to see which deals would get over the line.

‘We want to change things around a little bit and we have been looking at who is available and who we would like to bring in. We are very active in the market at the moment, and we are hopeful that things will begin to move quickly for us.’

Of course at this stage there are no guarantees that deals will come off but that’s always the case.

‘As always though, we are in the hands of other people, which isn`t easy, because we aren`t able to get as much traction in progressing certain deals as we would like.’

Looking around football at some of the deals already done by opposition clubs, Hughes added.

‘I think some clubs have done a lot of business, some are spending money that they haven`t actually got in the building yet. It seems quite obvious that Everton are looking to get strong first before allowing the likes of Romelu Lukaku or Ross Barkley to move out. I`m not privy to what they are going to do but it appears that that is likely to be the case, and they are reinvesting before those players leave. A lot of clubs are maybe doing that, and we are trying to improve too – we always want to move forward and we are intent on doing that this summer.’

Hopefully with the players back in training now we can get deals over the line sooner rather than later and they can start bedding in and getting to know their new colleagues ahead of August.
