Manager Mark Hughes has been speaking about the permanent capture of loan goalkeeper Lee Grant from Derby County in his pre game press conference.

Meeting with the media and the Official Website to discuss the weekend’s clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup third round, with Grant’s signing in midweek he obviously featured in the questioning and Hughes was delighted to have captured him.

‘From Lee`s point of view as well, it was something we were eager to resolve earlier rather than later. It was a little bit long winded and more protracted than we had hoped but we managed to get there in the end thankfully. We have got a decent deal to be perfectly honest, although there was a bit of a delay at the end because Lee had a few details on his contract at Derby to iron out. They needed sorting out, and that is why there was a little bit of waiting towards the end, but we got there and we can look forward now knowing that he is our player for the long-term.’

As for wider transfer movement this January, Hughes went on to say that we remained active in the market but wouldn’t be buying for the sake of it and nor was he going to give the media a running update on who we’d missed out on, if a deal wasn’t a goer we’d move on to the next target and see if something could be done there instead.

‘We are active in the market at the moment, although there is no point in me telling you about the ones we have missed out on because we have to move on from them. We are still in there looking at who may be available and what we may be able to do though, but as I have said many times before we only want guys to come in who can make a real difference to us. At this time of year, during the winter window, it is incredibly difficult to do that – but that certainly won`t stop us from trying.’
