Veteran defender Danny Higginbotham has moved to Sheffield United on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old defender was released by Stoke City to allow the former Potters captain to make his move to the League One outfit.

The central defender, come left back had previously been on-loan at Championship side Ipswich Town this season, making 12 appearances for the Tractor Boys.

The Manchester United academy graduate made over 100 appearances for Stoke during two spells in the Potteries, scoring 11 goals.

Higginbotham is the second player Stoke have released this season following Diego Arismendi`s release in November.
