With speculation linking Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant with a move to Old Trafford and Manchester United, that news was confirmed by the club late yesterday evening.

The 35-year-old makes the switch for an undisclosed fee after spending almost two years with the club following his arrival as cover for the then-injured Jack Butland. The former Derby County stopper made 31 league appearances during the 2016/17 campaign and was named as our Player of the Year in recognition of his performances. Games had been hard to come by though since Butland returned to fitness.

With confirmation of Grant departing, there was an almost immediate confirmation of his replacement and that was Australian international goalkeeper Adam Federici who arrives from Bournemouth.

The 33-year-old has signed a two-year deal and becomes the third signing of the summer under Gary Rowett.

Federici joins us with over 200 games under his belt and he made five appearances for Bournemouth last season, including two showings in the Premier League – one of those games was against Stoke back in November where he kept a clean sheet as we fell to a 1-0 defeat.

Steady and solid backup in my mind and fans shouldn’t overly read into his capture given ongoing rumours about the potential future of No 1 Jack Butland.
