Ricardo Fuller’s hopes of starting the new Premier season at Stoke hang in the balance amid worries of a serious knee ligament injury he sustained during a Jamaican international match at the weekend.

The 28 year old, who was undoubtedly Stoke’s star striker last season was injured in the match at the Bahamas on Sunday and it is deemed so serious that Stoke have sent their Director of Football, John Rudge out to see the extent of the damage and make sure that he is getting the correct treatment.

Rudge will also take a look at Demar Phillips and Potters’ target, Rudolph Austin in a return match against the Bahamas tonight. The Potters are rumoured to be preparing a £1m bid for Austin who Stoke failed to get a work permit for last year, but he should qualify now after completing the required number of international games.

The Sentinel are reporting that Fuller’s injury does not appear as bad as first feared. A Jamaican FA doctor has told them: “He has a slight injury to the lateral meniscus in his left knee and we thought it best not to take any chances with him in our World Cup qualifiers.

He had an MRI scan on the knee and that did not indicate anything too serious.”

So some good news after the initial worry. It at least allows Rudgie some time in the sun.
