Former Stoke City midfielder Stephen Ireland is attracting interest from three clubs at the moment, one of them is one of his former clubs.

Ireland was released at the end of last season and the 31-year-old could find himself back at Aston Villa, who, along with Bolton Wanderers and Reading, want the Irishman in their squads for the up and coming new season, according to the Reading Chronicle.

Ireland suffered with injuries in recent times, last season he made just one start for the Potters, so it was no great surprise to see that the player’s contract would not be renewed at the end of last term.

Villa picked Ireland up in 2010 from Manchester City but he left to seek regular football after former manager Gerrard Houlier let the player languish in the reserves after a difference of opinion between the two parties.

All three clubs would be taking a massive gamble on the player who could easily spend most of his time in the treatment room, but on the other hand, if he managed to stay fit the benefits of his experience would be very useful at Championship level.

On twitter, Villa fans think different.
