Wade Elliott has been appointed as assistant manager to Stoke’s U23 boss Glyn Hodges.

Elliott, who spent most of his playing career with Burnley and Bournemouth but also played for Birmingham and Bristol City prior to his retirement, has most recently been coaching with Forest Green Rovers.

However, the next step in his coaching career has brought him to the bet365 Stadium where Elliott will work alongside former Welsh international Hodges with the Potters U23 side.

Commenting on his appointment Academy Director Gareth Jennings told the Official Website.

‘Wade was captain of Bristol City when I was there and he was always one to support young players. He has been a captain at every club that he played for and we think he is the right type of person for the role. He will be excellent at supporting the young players coming through at the club. We are lucky to have Glyn Hodges who has a mass of experience and Wade embraces youth development.’

Jennings went on to say the fact 38 year old Elliott is especially keen on working towards helping to develop players looking to break into the first team, rather than be on the coaching staff at that level, is seen as unusual in this day and age with the club looking forward to his input.

‘He`s probably not typical of a player going into coaching because he is more focused on the professional development of the young players rather than the first-team environment. His experience can only be beneficial to the young players. We are really looking forward to him coming in and looking at the work he can do with the young players.’
